I am Hmong, can speak a little. My father immigrated from Laos when he was living in the jungle after the Secret War. My mother also immigrated from Vientiene; capital of Laos. I just wanted to know, does anybody know about the HMONG people? Because, it's been 30+ years since WE helped the United States in the Vietnam War, but we were never mentioned. The United States promised to help the Hmong people after the war, but only sent a small portion to the US (my father and mother and my other relatives). But, still, in the jungles and mountains of Laos today, the rest of the Hmong people are suffering from attacks from the Lao government. Yet, there has not been any attention directed towards them. I just want to know how many people even know who the HMONG people are? I've heard of the Minnesota hunting incident, but from what I've heard on the Hmong behalf is that while hunting he got lost and accidentally stumbled onto private property. The owners of the land came out and called him a "gook" and even took out their shotguns. I don't really remember the rest but I think he shot them to protect himself, not because he went psycho.

Never heard of them. It's not the first time that the usefulness of a people expires when the war is over. And they are left to suffer.

There are several large Hmong communities in Wisconsin. One Hmong deer hunter went psycho and killed almost a whole hunting party, including a teenage girl. He chased them down & shot them in the backs. Incidents like that one---and of course most are FAR less violent---don't make many people inclined to be friendly toward the Hmongs. They are also very clannish, and make little effort to integrate into the communities around them. I'm not saying MY feelings are represented here, but I thought you should hear some outsider comments. Myself, I am tolerant of all people---you get that way when you have a GAY child!
