Is Laos a good place to live?

I'll ask all the people whose families moved to my town after they fled Laos in the 1970s.

Communism doesn't work anywhere- are you kidding me?

Communism does not work in any place with a population of over 8 or 10 persons and most of the time not even then.

Laos is not a Communist country, it is a Socialist country run by a "Communist Party" (a political party that hopes to achieve a communist economic system at some time in the future). Communism is an ECONOMIC System, as is Socialism and Capitalism. It is NOT a political system. It is nearly 34 years since I was last in Laos (December 1976), so I am unable to say what the country is like now. I was living in Laos from December 1975 to September 1976 immediately after the Pathet Lao took control of the country (December 1975) and they had a lot of problems with running the administration and with inflation during 1976.
