What is the NON-Church-going Hmong/Thai/Vietnamese/Laos view of polygyny

What is the NON-Church-going Hmong/Thai/Vietnamese/Laos view of polygyny?
Polygny used to be common in Hmong culture. But Hmong American Christians seem to find it very offensive they say it does not work in cases they have seen therefor it is all bad. Do you think Hmong Shaman would be open to polygyny more than Hmong American Christians? Do you think those living in the U.S. have a different view than those outside the U.S. in regards to both Christian and Shaman?

For the last 50 years Polygyny is forbitten in Thailand, but you can still see the results of a history where polygyny was normal. A lot of Thai man are not that loyal to their wife or girlfriend. Because of this their are lots of heart broken. I think Polygyny is something that is a normal behaviour if you look thousands and thousands years back. The 'Alfa Male' could get a lot of women. The same you will find in the world of animals. But I think this can only work when everybody thinks it's normal. Nowedays there are not a lot of countries where this is normal and also in the U.S. you would get in trouble I think. We can controll our behaviour very well nowedays, but the fact that their are thousands and thousands of people cheating everyday shows that nature things different....

Most are Buddhist & most are genuine people & have strong family values , you could do a lot worst .Remember every one is different & have different motivations but people from Laos are mostly rural ,simple (not in intelligence but in life style) & what a reasonable life style . You can always be conned but your chances of finding a genuine person from Laos is pretty good. Remember this answer is in general. I was in Laos fighting during the Vietnam war ( we where not supposed to be there) ,I found them nice but curious.

Religion has nothing to do with polygamy in this case. In the old days, polygamy was a sign of wealth and status. A Hmong man could marry as many wives as he could afford. But in this day and age, the majority of Hmong men opt for just one wife, especially in western countries where polygamy is a crime. Even in southeast Asia, polygamy among Hmong people is rare now.

QUOTE: "Hmong American Christians seem to find it very offensive" My friend, I don't know about Northern Cali, Minnesota, or any other places, but you should come down to Southern Cali... you'd see these so-called "Baptized Hmong Christian Men" with more than one wife... heck, some women are even cheating on their husbands with their pastors and vice versa... Lots of brainwashing and corruption! Not to mention some people with the same last names are even marrying each other now! But of course, I'm not going to name anyone. Now to answer your questions: "Do you think Hmong Shaman would be open to polygyny more than Hmong American Christians?" - I can't say for sure if Hmong Shaman would be open to polygamy more than Hmong Christians. You know how those perverted dirty old men and the gold digging hoe, hoe, hoes are on both sides? same difference! "Do you think those living in the U.S. have a different view than those outside the U.S. in regards to both Christian and Shaman?" - I don't say, as I've never been out of the U.S. before.
