What is the legal age at which a person can adopt a child in the United States

What is the legal age at which a person can adopt a child in the United States?
I am a 18 year old male living in Houston, Texas, USA. Someday I plan to adopt children from foreign countries (Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, etc..). You might say that I'm the "male version" of Angelina Jolie. I want to adopt foreign children, but I'm not sure about which age at which you can legally do it. PLEASE HELP!!!

You have to be able to support these children. It depends on your living situation and income..

i would believe although i am not sure that it would be 18 because that is when people can have sex and you are a full blown adult at 18 you can make your own choices

I don't know the legal age, but you really should give some consideration to waiting until you are a little more mature. No adoption agency in the US (or in their right mind) would give a child to a child (sorry, men just aren't mature at 18, even if they are "legal"). If foreign agencies will do it, then they don't have the best interests of the children foremost. That said, basically, the law is different in each country and you have to deal with THAT particular country's laws. You will need an adoption lawyer in that country and probably an immigration attorney in the US. The US government will not interfere in adoption matters between you and the other country. Here is a brochure that will give you more information. (At the end, there are links to specific countries and their adoption requirements.) http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/notices/notices_473.html

Am I a liberal or conservative. I love tax cuts for the poor and middle class but not for people who make above 200,000. I love gun rights. I strongly dislike gay rights. I am a Baptist. I do not support illegal alien amnesty. I fully support the troops on the battle front. I fully support civil rights and civil liberties. I support Roe v. Wade. I hate high gas prices. I feel that Capitalism and Communism have serious flaws, but would take the first over the latter. I feel that the federal government has too many agencies. I dislike globalization. I support the environment. I dislike eminent domain. I dislike capital punishment, but realize that some crimes are too extreme. I believe in corporal punishment. I support stem cell research, but not human cloning. Victimless crimes should not be law enforcements top priority, e.g. marijuana, pornography, etc. If someone wants to die that is Their choice. I dislike GWB. I respect the first Bush. I believe that Church and State has its boundaries. I think I am left-center...I think.

I think every state is different as far as legal age at which a person can adopt a child. For instance, in California the prospective adoptive parent must be at least ten years older than the child. If the child is over eleven years old, consent for adoption from the child must also be provided. Of course, every foreign country has their own rules in regards to adoption. Good luck.
