Tattoos in Thailand

Tattoos in Thailand?
I will be traveling to Thailand this summer and was looking to get a tattoo. I am going to be in cities such as Bangkok and Laos, and also living with the hill tribes (I was told I could get a tattoo by member of the tribes if I wanted, but I think I'm going to stick to getting it in Bangkok). Yes I know this is risky and I need to be sure the needs being used is autoclave or "single-use" (this is not my first tattoo in a foreign country), what I'm wondering is if there if you must be a certain age to get tattoos and will I have a problem communicating the tattoo I want (language barrier)? Any other information you could offer would be helpful! Thank you.

Getting tattoos in Thailand is no big deal, all the tattoo shops have autoclaves etc and physically show you the needles etc coming out the autoclave....so all done to the same standards as in western countries.. There is no age requirement and if you get it done in the likes of Bangkok or Pattaya, almost all the artists speak pretty good English.... If you get the opportunity to get a tattoo by a Buddhist monk in a temple do so....it hurts as its done by hand - not a machine

Do you want fashion or spiritual tattoos? They're different in meanings and acts. If you want it just for fashion, you can go to any tattoo shops. If you want the spiritual tattoos, I'd like to suggest you to go to "Wat Bang Phra". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wat_Bang_Phra). You can find the details of Thai spiritual tattoos at http://sak-yant.com. In addition, you can ask them to use a new needle and new ink for you. BTW, I'd like to suggest you to find "Jimmy Wong", a tattoo guy. His shop is located at Sukhumvit Soi 5. If you google his name, you will find his excellent artworks. And...if you are in Thailand during May 16-18, you can join this tattoo arts festival (http://www.jimmywongtattoo.com).
