What to Wear in Laos, How to to behave, any insight would be helpful

What to Wear in Laos, How to to behave, any insight would be helpful.?
I will be moving to Vientiane, Laos to work at the US Embassy there. I want to know everything I can about it. I have already looked at Wikipedia and WikiTravel and I am looking for other links to informational sites or information from people who are living there or have lived there or just anyone who is good with a search engine. I really want to know what to wear (I am very white so I know I could never really blend in) how to act and behave. what the food is like ANY tips or advice on how not to stick out like a tourist. OK, basically anything you can tell me.

Hi! I'm not a Laotian nor am I living in Laos, but I found a great site about Laotian culture for you. This site has all the info you will need during your stay in Laos. I would say that Southeast Asians are very forgiving when foreigners accidentally commit a cultural faux pas, and as such, don't be very troubled or ashamed when you commit some cultural blunders. http://www.seasite.niu.edu/lao/undp/understandingCulture.htm For clothing, you can wear light-colored and short-sleeved polo. Laos can get very hot (summer is during June-September), so do prepare ample light clothing.

Hi Aaron, That is very exciting and cool that you are moving to Vientiane to work for the US Embassy. I know a few people who work there. I am Lao and was born in Vientiane, Laos. I recommended that you wear dress shirts, dress pants, ties (optional) and dress leather shoes. I guess it is not that different from how men wear to work in North America. Lao people are very conservative, easy going, friendly and kind. Don't worry too much about going to Laos because you will have a great time and experience. The food is amazing and so is the culture.
