Can I drive my Thai registered car in Vietnam

Can I drive my Thai registered car in Vietnam ?
I know I can cross from Thailand to Laos but have had conflicting info as regards crossing from Laos to Vietnam. I have the proper paper work to exit Thailand with the car (Jeep). I am an Australian living in Thailand, i would only stay in Vietnam about one week

Do yourself a favor mate, leave your car in Laos or Thailand. Its only for a week. The traffic chaos here in Vietnam is getting worse each and everyday. The casualty list is appalling. You will be very grateful you did. You do realize Vietnamese vehicles are left hand drive and international drivers licenses are not recognized here? Without a Vietnamese driving license no insurance company will cover you. It just cost one Canadian mother $140'000 to get her critically injured son back to Canada after a motorbike accident. Its been reported she's gone into debt up to her eyeballs to get him home! Mate, you bring a right handed vehicle here, without a Vn license or insurance and attempt to mix it with the cowboys on the roads, they'll run straight over the top of you! It would be like playing Russian Roulette with only one empty chamber!
